Kind of an aside to this topic but i think one of the consequences of Nintendo splitting the market this generation by producing a significantly less powerful console is that both Sony and Microsoft are going to be a little careful about producing consoles way above the specs of WiiII.

They were confident at the start of this gen that Nintendo was a virtual non-entity but going into the next gen they are going to be much more wary about producing a console that is a) much more expensive b) has significantly different specs. With the momentum that Nintendo has now and is likely to maintain until the end of the generation if the HD twins differentiate themselves too much from Nintendo i think they risk sacrificing a lot of developer support. The upshot of all this is i think most of the next-gen contenders will have relatively similar specs, a least closer than they are this gen. Whether that's 720p or 1080p as a standard remains to be seen.

Yeah I think this is a good point, and it reminds me of something I was gonna type.  I think it could be a drawback for Nintendo to go gung ho on specs next time around (despite my preference and last post) because I think it is something of a dismay to fans after their stance this time around.  Also I think many like the budget gaming experience that the Wii offered.

However that bieng said, I think thats the lesser of the two (possible) negitive scenarios given the fact that mostly 1. Regular people won't care or debate about it, or be like, OMG the BIG N sold us out, quathzors!!! and they may or may not buy Wii 2 either way depentand upon their own ... what the damn word... con.. consumorities???? .. creature comfort, type....whatever!  Normal people don't care is what I'm tryin to say, and their purchase has been predetermined because they are normal and they just buy on command.   NOW 2. is the gamer factor.  More Gamers will be interested in Wii 2 than NOT in my opinion if it is more of a tech powerhouse rather than less of one.  so to me those things tip the scales.
