Personally, I was expecting Nintendo to focus on 720p/1080i in the next generation ...
I think that it is fair to expect that Nintendo probably won't be that interested in pushing out the newest of fastest hardware in the next generation and will probably put together a system that is somewhere between 4 and 8 times the performance of the HD consoles. Now, at this performance range if you're displaying imagest at 720p @60fps it will be fairly difficult to produce dramatically better looking images without increasing processing power by an order of magnitude.
