If you took all the blockbuster games off the HD systems, you'd just be left with average games... unlikely to make back their money, and even worse, highly prone to totally flopping and costing millions.

This right here is the fatal flaw in your argument: the misconception that HD systems are making games better. That simply isn't true, nor can it be, because the HD consoles offer nothing over the previous generation but pretty pictures.

When did i say that?

I said if you didn't put blockbusters on the HD systems... you'd be putting only regular games on.

"regular" games that cost as much as it would to make a Wii blockbuster.

Games that could fail and cost you 8+ million a piece.

If an average Wii game flops... it costs you like... 4+ million a piece.

The regular games are more likely to flop, so why not put them on a system where the blow is going to be less... and put a lot of average games on the wii, and your few big ones on the HD consoles?

Aside from the massive spectacular flops which are extremely rare its the games you don't hear about which cost Publishers/Developers their money. There are many developers who cannot scale their production efforts to the current production levels required for many HD games and maintain overall game polish/quality. When the production increases from 50 to 150 staff, it takes a complete effort from the producers through to the individual lead artists and programmers to hold a project of such scope together.

Its easier to make a good Wii game (From a production standpoint) than an average HD game, so long as they follow the model of TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST and actually get their game into the hands of their potential customers ASAP rather than wait until 6 months before release to find that everyone hates how they open doors or that the average Wii user doesn't understand many of the tacit game concepts that we take for granted.
