SCE: Things are looking up. Is a price cut really out of the question?

Wait, Sony and the PS3 may have some hope in the future?????

Nice post makingmusic. I agree Sony should be looking very good by the time we see the next financial reports. If the results for Q3 can show profit it may just be what they need for stock holders to be happy. Perhapps that was the whole stratagy of holding steady on the price this season all along. It makes good sense if you think about it.

If Sony cuts the PS3 price in mid Febuary it would be very good for sales. With all the prapaganda going on in the media right now it may be in Sony's favor to get the sales looking respectable against at least the 360 early in the year. I am not a fan of cutting the price twice in one year, but a $50 Feb, $50 Sept may be the best stratagy in the current situation.

Personally, I am still really hoping that Sony focuses on marketing and software to push sales at the current price. CES will be very interesting this year. I really hope Sony is planning a music service for the PS3, and that they shed a lot of light on what they have planned for the future of Home. Another issue that I think would be a lot of help is dealing with the DRM on the PSN video store. Hopefully the folks at Sony have been working closly with the studios to make the content more accessable quickly next year. With the current buy but don't own policy on content in the store it is never going to interest the mass market.

What it all comes down to is this. Sony is in a much better position than they are getting credit for right now. 2008 was a good year ans the PS3 is no longer in a position were developers are going to leave it behind. 2009 is only looking brighter than 08, and in time everyone will have no option but to take off the blinders. No matter how things turn out PS3 owners are getting one of the best game line-ups a console has ever seen, and that is all that really matters.
