Dragon Quest didn't catch on in the West due to poor timing. During Nintendo's first effort to bring the series into the limelight stateside (there was a massive Nintendo Power giveaway of Dragon Warrior cartridges, in fact), the RPG had not blossomed in the US and games like Mario and Tetris were far more popular. Dragon Warrior seemed a dated-looking and tedious title compared to the sleek and comparatively consistently-fast-paced Super Mario Bros 2. During the era when we were ready for a more complex sort of game (ie. late SNES/early PS1), Enix of America was going bankrupt and couldn't bring us DQ5 or 6. By the time DQ7 came along, it was too late; FF7 had stolen the American RPG audience's attention.
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.
