Systems generate a buzz about them. If the PS3 has generated a buzz of being a flop, then he would feel that and feel the need to dump it as soon as possible. Sega faced this with the Saturn and then the Dreamcast.  Maybe he feels he only needs one system, so thus, the PS3 is out.

Any hobbyist gamer should keep systems they like, if the have games.  I have personally bought systems on the way out, to get games for them that were unique and worth owning.  It is why I bought an N64 on its last days, and even have an N-Gage for Sega's Pocket Kingdom.
