It depends on which third party game you are talking about. In my opnion, any console that sells 500k worldwide is an success. Unless, if it is a huge exclusive game like Super Smash bros or halo 3 or mgs4, then, no. Other than tht, 500k is an EPIC SUCCESS.

EPIC success? no. But is not going to bankrupt them. Also, I think the number is now like 600k break even for HD games that are not massive projects, just midline games. For the Wii it is about 350k to break even. But for low budget titles like NMH, De Blob, and Zack and Wiki it is closer to 150-200k. And then games like Disagea are even lower (under 100k break even point)

DS games for the most part seem to be around 200k for a midlevel title (due to the fact the games only cost 29.99), but alot of the casual type games may have even lower break even points. That is what makes a game like cooking mama so profitable on the DS, I am willing to be they would have made money with 150k in sales, but it has sold like what 3 mil? All gravy. Those types of games do not sell on the PSP, or HD consoles... period. (beside the Disagea type games)
