well thats the suspected number, every price drop keeps them holding a steady $7 profit off each console. Thats been stated for years though.. it might have been started back in 2002? But thats the number that people suspect that Sony has stuck with since the first or second price drop, and Sony did announce when they started making a profit on the PS2 back then (no idea if theres a link to the subject matter).

Even some analysts just believe that it will stay at $7 till the console is below $99. So figure till the, well December apparently, 100k sold times $7 = $700k profit.

I still don't understand where you're pulling that $7 number from. Are you talking about retailer profit (eg. Sony charges a retailer $122 for PS2, which the retailer then turns around and sells for $129)? If so, the retailer gets the $7, not Sony. It could cost Sony $45 or $147 to make that PS2 that they sell to retailers for $122, the $7 has nothing to do with them.

Sorry if I'm being obtuse but I don't understand where you're getting that number.

The PS2 costs Sony $115 for Sony to make, they charge retailers $122, so they get $7 per console sold to retailers. The PS2 is being sold at retailers for $129.99 which means that retailers are making $7 profit off the PS2, and of course all the sales tax goes to the government.
