What WKC has proven is that square-enix had the right idea and jrpgs have to be released multiplatform.
Yes it's the biggest first day if a jrpg in Japan but not by a huge amount 132K v 80K for vesperia.
Yes vesperia is an established franchise but WKC is developed by level 5 which easily makes up for that. I don't think a lot of people realise what a big deal L5 are. Last year at the TGS their booth had longer lines than any other, even beating SE. They are THE developer in Japan at the moment. They have a massive following.
My guess is had WKC been on the 360 exclusive it would have had a higher opening than vesperia. Probably 90-100k.
So really all we know now is this isn't like last gen where if you were making a jrpg you had to go Ps2. The 360 clearly provides enough sales of these games to make it worth developing for. What will be interesting will be how WKC does outside Japan. The gap in Japan certainly isn't so big that it shows worldwide the PS3 is better at selling jrpgs.
So basically looks like S-E made a great decision taking FF13 multiplatform and I wouldn't be surprised if more and more jrpg developers started doing the same.
