meh. I wouldn't say its killing it. Nintendo had the rumble out before the others, analog stick out before the others, shoulder buttons, reliable wireless controllers, trigger button, etc. all before the others. Didn't really stop the change in tides did it? Takes more than just a small control change. It takes radical steps, choosing a new path that others are afraid of, and heavy analyzation in areas where competition is blind.
