It could happen, but acting as though it's a given shows you haven't looked at the series sales. It hasn't sold that well since the PS1 days.

One only needs to look at current trends in gaming. History really doesn't matter in this case...co-op online shooter + xbox 360 = massive sales. Especially one with as big of userbase thats patiently waiting for a sequel...
