 At the risk of getting caught up in this debate, I wanted to point out that its pretty rare for console companies to focus on games that are more than 6 months away with their PR campaigns.  There are only two reasons people know what is coming in '08 for the PS3, first because there isn't a whole lot going on this year and second because things have been delayed from this year to next year.  Not trying to deflate your entire argument but this point just didn't make much sense to me. I think you will see MS hype their '08 games as we get closer, and I think you will see new games announced for early '08 releases on all the consoles as we get into Oct/Nov timeframe.

Yep, exactly. Sony is focusing on 08 because they simply don't have a lot coming out this year. Lair and HS are getting very mixed reviews and it looks like most of their eggs will be sitting in Uncharted's basket this holiday season (actually, this is the only PS3 game that I will definitely buy this year, the rest will probably be rentals). Comparing that to the Halo/Bioshock/Mass Effect trifecta and it's hard to make a case for Sony success this holiday season, at least in NA and parts of Europe (the most important parts that buy a lot of games, at least).

Besides, if you've got the games coming out in 07, why bother advertising 08? Remember that 99% of gamers are not forum junkies and they don't follow E3 or press releases. They get their information from TV, newspapers, and magazines, all of which will be concentrating on games arriving in the near future with 08 releases relegated to footnotes here and there.
