By defacto this lowers all costs for anything developed on Wii versus its HD counter-part.

Setting the DirectX or OpenGL setting on 640*480 instead of 1280*720 makes games cheaper? Wow that's cool. By that definition 10 year old PC games that did run in 1024*768 must have cost 20million?

I think you should make a little research here.

That's not what does it. The added cost comes from graphics: rather than upscaling the textures, they pack them full of miniscule details that no one notices during gameplay anyway. This requires much more effort, when the only real gain is that you can make nicer screenshots and trailers for your advertisements. Which is, of course, the whole point: selling more copies through better marketing.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
