I mean, I cannot believe that Microsoft would let anyone sell content on their platform without getting a piece of the action. Most likely 30%. So in that case, MS would have paid for profits they would have recieved anyway. And that might not have been such a smart move.

R*, interestingly, had offered GTA III to be exclusive - and the rest of the games - on the Xbox first - but they knew R* and their frat boy ways and that the game would be - well, violent. They passed - and regretted it. This time, they approached R* - R* laughed and MS suggested the episodes and some $$$. R* listened. GTA IV was NEVER going to be a timed exclusive. It's R*'s golden goose.
