Ninty went down the road of the Wii - because they know the "other" road is unsustainable. Bigger, more expensive projects... less sales, more competition. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
Solution - cheaper game dev, games that appeal to more consumers, sell a lot more units per game.
Haze is the perfect example of a game that was destined to fail. Saturated (shooter) market, relatively small install base (PS3) - fairly long dev, would have cost a lot to make.
