That's true that only a fraction of the people from last gen has switched but how you described it is not how things work. Funny that the same PS3 fans are arguing that Blu-ray has won when almost everyone is still watching DVD. The thing is that the PS3 fans are right in this case because once one side gets a much bigger market share, then the 3rd party support is decided and there is just no going back even if it's only a few percent of the entire market.

Blu-Ray hasn't won yet, but IMO the Blu-Ray vs HD DVD is a very different battle, Codecs are identical, more high profile movies are known to hit Blu-Ray due to various Sony movie studios, Fox and Disney, every PS3 owner has the option to watch Blu-Ray movies. Blu-Ray has a market share of 98% of the high def market in Japan.

The main ace HD DVD really has is pricing, yet it's being outsold 2:1 in even its strongest market, the US. But the pricing difference has got smaller. IMO it would take a miracle to turn this around.

With regard to PS3 vs other consoles there are too many unknown factors to make any reliable predictions.

What about the 98% of the people that are still watching DVD??  How can it be decided when almost nobody has even bought it yet, and 2:1 is nothing.

I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Wii is outselling PS3 by 3 or 4:1 in Japan, 3:1 in Europe, and 2:1 in North America.  It would take a comeback of similar proportions for PS3 to catch the Wii.  As we've already seen the PS3 is selling slower than GC.
