Yes, the PS2 is helping Sony out a lot. The PS2 doesn't require that much investments at this point, but at the same time, brings in a steady amount of money and quite a bit of it. I really thought that the PS2 wouldn't hang around till now, but surprisingly, it has still been popular so it looks like the PS2 will still be a big deal in 2008 and beyond.
Without the PS2, the PS3 would never have gotten off the ground, and would have kept the PS3 from its future success that I predict that it will have once its AAA titles and Home/DVD/VOP/BD all come online and/or become more popular for consumers.
