Although it acknowledges that some of its brands are "not appropriate" for the Wii, Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two is encouraged by the relationship it's built with Nintendo and hopes to continue efforts to address the Wii's significant install base.

As part of the company's fourth quarter financial results call, CEO Ben Feder specifically highlighted the success of Take-Two's Wii title GTA: Carnival Games, plus upcoming DS title Chinatown Wars, as evidence of a growing relationship with Nintendo.

Notable, the executive suggested that the company would continue to explore Wii development in a robust manner.

"We believe we'll continue to benefit from the growing install base of the Nintendo Wii," said Feder. "Our relationship with Nintendo has never been stronger," he added, calling it a "great foundation on which to build."

"Even some of the M-rated content that we think is much more appropriate for the [Xbox] 360 or the PS3... we have to look at the Wii as a viable platform, because we can't ignore that install base," Feder said. "We just can't."

Wow, pretty epic quote there. It seems not even Western devs can ignore the Wii now. 2009 will see some interesting developments.

Oh, and does anyone find it kinda strange that even though Carnival Games sold extremely well ("OMG TEH CASUAL GAME!") TT see the Wii as not just a shovelware machine? Looks like it doesn't matter what the Wii sells (and some people like to press this on non-core Wii arguments) - if it succeeds, it's worth developing for.

As Makingmusic pointed out, there was a GTA: Carnival Games? GTA as in Grand Theft Auto?
