The UK sold over half a million consoles this week... madness.

Easily the second biggest market after the US, now.

Unless, of course, Japan sells 450,000 DS units.

When people say this, they're only taking the current hardware sales into account, correct?

I just can't see the UK coming close in software, it's too far behind Japan in installed bases. Japan is behind ~1.5m HD consoles, but has sold ~1.5x more Wiis, ~2.8x more DS, and ~3.7x more PSPs. Unincluding the PS2, they're down about 25m units in hardware (Japan has over double the current gen install base). There are more DS sold in Japan than all the UK's hardware combined.

Japan was just an early bloomer, really. Or late... regarding the home consoles, depending what happens there.
