IMHO, the awards are really just honorable mention. The PS3 has the engine to make the best eye candy on the market - and the game took how long coming out? I would be shocked if it didn't pick up the visual award.
Yeah, the game looks awesome - that much I will admit - and the soundtrack rocks, but it really had no chance of winning game of the year.
