I'm Dutch so I'm hardly qualified to give an outside-in look. But when I think of my fellow Europeans it's mostly about a lot of quarreling before any concensus is reached.
Still, this concensus is quite important in such a diverse society. Highwaystar noted that America should look at the more progressive side of Europe to learn something.
I'm kinda hoping that with the problems America is facing now, that they rather learn from us to reach concensus amongst the different political groups.
