I'd argue that the 8 player co-op is very different from anything I've ever played. The 60 player multiplayer is different enough, as well, seeing as how we've never really seen anything like it on consoles before. While I haven't had the privilege of playing Gears 2 yet, I have heard from my friends who have played that it isn't "the next big thing," despite being an amazing game.
