HD gamers prefer realism. It's almost the opposite of how it works in Japan - all the best selling Japanese franchises for the west have a more realistic look (FFXIII, RE5, MGS4, etc). It's most obvious when you compare Blue Dragon vs. Lost Odyssey sales (Japan vs west).
The Wii is pretty much the opposite. Hell, look at Dragon Quest Swords' sales in the west.
