I think you guys are underestimating the public. It's true they'll have no idea about review scores but that doesn't mean they'll pick up garbage. There's ways to tell and you see it in the sales:
1) If it's Nintendo (Wii/Mario) very good odds it'll be fun and high quality. Look at Nintendo game sales. Other recognizable brands also benefit from this(Sonic/Rabbids)
2) If it's $50 it's probably a good game. If it's $20 it's probably crap or really old or most likely both.
3) Word of mouth. If your friend recommended it it's probably good.
4) Play it at a friends house or rented it so you know it's good.
5) Sales rep recommends it
Now casuals do seem to like some of those mini-game collections like the undying Carnival Games which I can't understand why that sucker sells as well as it does but apparently it's getting good word of mouth. But most of that crap (Kawasaski Jet Ski) sells like crap. The fact that the two year old Monster Truck 4x4 is still on the rack shows that even after two years no one has been dumb enough to buy it.
Also, there's a market for a lot of those games (American Idol, Petz, Price is Right) just not on this site.
