If it did, MS and Nintendo are perfectly able to mount a price war on Sony (not that I think Nintendo would need to).

In a price war, everyone would be a loser, but Sony would be the biggest one. Better for SCE to just minimize their losses and maximize the probability they'll live to tell the story.
