Sony thought that by including Blu Ray and marketing it as a high end sophisticated product it would win them the war. However they forgot several things and based on the last two gen you can see why-

Respect for the competition no matter what.

Todays technology is yesterdays technology and hence prices fall. No matter what one may think of the PS3 being good value for money, it's still too expensive for most and Blu Ray players can be bought for less than the price of the PS3 these days.

Not enough AAA games.

Hard to program for. More expense required to develop for PS3 than the equivalent game on the 360.

Not foreseeing the credit crunch (not many did).

Blu Ray is NOT going to be the next DVD. Not yet anyway. Consumers don't want to move to new formats so soon. New formats = Upgrading PC, set top box etc. VHS was with us for about 2 decades. Consumers expect it to be like that for DVD.

Many former Sony exclusives or timed Sony exclusives no longer the case. GTAIV has exclusive content coming out on the PC and 360 for crying out loud.

360 = Hardcore

Wii = Casual

PS3 = ?
