Oh my! How the heck did the semantics get in the way of something so simple.
Joystick is a noun which represents a 4 or 8 optional position stick that sits in neutral of its surrounding positions - as I said it's large enough to require your entire hand to function the way it was intended. (LOL with the guy saying that Joy sticks are DPads)
Analog uses your thumb through the same means, but uses only your thumb.
It honestly depends, I find Joysticks much more apt for fighting games.
