I think passing the GC sales will be one of the more significant milestones it will achieve. Ever home console from Nintendo has had lower sales than the one preceding it. To see that trend reversed will mean the end of the downward spiral replayed by anti-Nintendo media.
Surpassing each subsequent console from that point would also mark moments in history to show how far they fell and how fast they've returned.
