They don't need to reach our level of wealth to be able to purchase games and consoles. Of course, the more money they have, the more they can afford to buy. The point is, that most of the countries are wealthy enough to have a games market. The biggest problem in the markets isn't that much the lack of money, but the amount of piracy. You basically said it yourself. Poverty and lack of cash. That's why piracy continue to flourish.. :P Now, i wouldn't count Russia and Serbia into your list, since Russia isn't that poor that it seems an Serbia isn't in Eastern-Europe (besides, without Russia your list is only around 100M in pop, instead the 300-400M you claimed). |
*sigh*
Pay more attention when you read. "subract 300 - 400,000,000 million people in Eastern-Europe and Russia who can't afford it."
And yes, Russia is "that poor". Ever been outside Moscow and Saint Petersburg? You live in Finland. You should do a road trip through Russia. Also check statistics. Again, Moscow and Saint Petersburg are poor cities with millions of people living in poverty. The rest of Russia is even poorer. Hopefully the standard of living will continue to improve during the next decades.
A large russian middle-class will eventually appear, but that will take decades.
No. As much as I love the Wii, it won't sell 210 million. Markets and demand. Add in some demography and you'll understand how things work. Keep on dreaming though.
