I've read a lot about how PS2 numbers are not "relevant". I would say they are still relevant if people are still purchasing the system.
I don't consider the PSP irrelevant because the PS3 came out. Obviously Sony is selling both of them and they do different things. I consider this the same relationship as the PS3 and the PS2 even though the PS3 is the eventual replacement.
