You can't compare retail bundles with manufacturer bundles. Lots of retailers offer loss leaders with various consoles, for their own money-making purposes. The retail sector wants desperately to push Blu-Ray... the PS3 is just part of that strategy. Sony has nothing to do with retail-specific bundles. The cheaper 283.79 bundle you mention above is not a Sony official bundle, to my knowledge.
The fact that Target, this week, is offering $20 gift certificates to X360 Arcade buyers has nothing to do with MS, either... Get it?
