I don't think that's what he's saying, as much as there is room for RPG's with not so great plots if the gameplay remains fun and addicting. I love games with stories as well, but they're not the only type of game that should exist. Not every RPG has to have an amazing story, as they can instead keep people interested with a fun battle mechanic.
