@Onna: Although i believe you made a rhetoric question, i still answer it.

With the PS2, publishers were betting for the right console, so they didn't really have any problems with their investments. This gen, they bet the wrong horse (although, only EA had the balls to admit it. Which isn't any wonder with their financials) and now are finding excuses why something is as it is. In todays businessworld, the guy who makes bad investments for his company, may have his ass on the line, so they may have personal intrests for making their investments make profit (also the full studio may be closing the end of its life due to bad investments).
Another thing is, that Wii may not be the devs favourite platform to develope for. Since these guys aren't paying the bills, they need to find "reasonable" excuses to keep on developing for the platform they want, even if it wouldn't be financially wise.
In both cases, they are trying to message publishers and investors about they supposedly are right and anyone who wants to make money is wrong. After all, these guys are making something that's larger than life.
