yeh ps2 will be discontinue when the demand is extremely low. i remember last year in january ps2 actually outsold 360. but yeh sony will stop making the ps2 when it stops selling, as long as sony makes a profit off the ps2 it will keep selling
ps1 came out in 1995, it was finally discontinued in 2005, 2 entire gen's it survied. i expect the same with ps2
