Simply because it was the new console. Now it is in it's 3rd year and nobody wants it anymore. Hell i would sell mine if i could recoup the amount i paid for it. I wonder if others would do the same?
Software wise PS3 has done bad so was only a matter of time before the hardware sales followed suit.
