In case you forget, Japan is quite capable of buying multi-million units of major Final Fantasy releases. Sure, the PS2 sold more units there, but the potential is there to sell at least 1 mil. copies LTD of this game in Japan alone. Thats a pretty relevant figure. out of interest: FF X: 7.95 million units WW LTD of that Japan bought : 3.02 million (38%) FF X-2: 5.21 million units WW LTD of that Japan bought : 2.41 million (46%) FFXII: 5.09 million units WW LTD of that Japan bought 2.42 million (47.5%) Maybe you could argue that this sites data is incorrect, but those numbers seem relatively relevant to me.

Those numbers aren't really relevant to your argument, since the PS3 is not the PS2. We've had a number of popular PS2 era franchises that have significantly underperformed in their PS3 releases. FFXIII will be a success. But will it ignite a massive resurgence of the PS3 in Japan? I'm willing to bet no. It will probably end up being one of the lowest selling FF's in Japan, I'm guessing 1.5 million at most. The userbase just isn't there to support sales similar to the 3 PS2 titles. In fact, looking at the fraction of sales coming from Japan, I could see why SE decided to make it multiplatform.
