The biggest hurdle it seems would be to optimize the cameras, and how it interprets what the cameras see. There's all the stuff that those various camera systems pick up, such as dips in the road, incoming heat sources, various RGB imagery, whether or not something is too close to the car, etc...

If we want a car that is purely computer-driven, that can drive at 50 mph plus...a lot of work and advancing technology needs to be done on AI, processors, and cameras.

My brain can process a pedestrian hundreds of feet away, while keeping inline with the road, watching for potholes, construction cones, etc...I'll wait til there's a better alternative than my brain.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
