This thread is too damn long to go through but he's my 2 cents.
While MS leaves a bad taste in people's mouth in Europe and Japan (UK excepted) it's got good brand presence in NA, so Sony has little Brand dominance here.
Gameswise the systems are VERY similar. Obviously the have exclusives but really, to the lay person what's the difference between Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2. Hell, I couldn't even tell you. The difference in games to the average person is so small it's irrelevant. (In comparison Wii offers a totally difference experience)
Power wise again, basically a draw. We know different but avg person doesn't see it. Hell it's all the same games all in HD right? What's the difference?
Okay Arcade don't have a HD but Joe Blow is still comparing $299 Pro to $399 PS3 and not seeing the added costs of 360, they just see $100 cheaper.
So that only leaves price as a deciding factor. PS3 loses.
Unless the consumer also wants a blu-ray player but 2 problems with that. 1) Economy. People may not want to shell out $10-15 more per movie and not care about Blu-ray. 2) An increasing number of people own a blu-ray player already.
