A 5-6 million lead isn't a lot, a healthy gaming platform at a mass market entry pricing easily sells more than double that amount a year.

Some people claim the gap between 360 and PS3 sales has remained the same. That's of course not the case, the PS3 sold a lot better taking equal timeframes and think about it, a 5-6 million lead for a 1 year headstart in Japan and North America, a 1 year and 5 months headstart for Europe and even a much larger headstart for some smaller regions (the PS3 for example is yet to launch for South America).

One thing which IMO is striking is that many fanboys who claim the gap to have remained the same, also at a time claimed the 360 sold extremely well its first years on the market. Think about it, if the gap remained the same and the 360 sold so extremely well then how the hell could the gap be only 5-6 millions considering the huge headstarts the 360 had for the various regions?

In reality the gap between 360 and PS3 has already gotten 3 million smaller, this at a much higher entry pricing for the PS3 and most of its most anticipated games yet to come. Meanwhile the 360 is selling at a similar price as when the original XBox was taken off the market and all major XBox games already saw sequels on the 360.

The PS3 is set to overtake 360 sales soon enough. In the past I anticipated this to happen for 2009 and I think I'll stick to that.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
