Yes, if you buy an USA DSi next year, you can still play your japanese copy of Ouendan or Jump Superstar, etc... the DSi is region free.
The only thing that is region lock are the DSWare games. You can only download USA DSWare games in your USA DSi... and you can only download Japanese DSWare games on your Japanese DSi.
But every DS retail game will work, no matter what region did you buy the game.
