I guess Nintendo is trying to gain a good reputation. At the same time they need to gain a hardcore fanbase which could affect their good reputation. Nintendo is already loved by many families around the world. I think paying more attention to the harcore gamers won't effect their image that much. Besides they already gained enough casual gamers. They need to do something new.
