It's basically an old school 2-D platformer with a few RPG twists added in at this point.

Since you didn't like the other super mario RPG games i think you'll enjoy it.

Most of the hate comes from people who are pissed it's not the game they wanted, and not for the game it is.

 

 I don't really like the old school 2-D platformers though... Still, I might pick it up if I can get it cheap.
