OLD & REPEATED RANDOM THOUGHTS YOU'VE PROBABLY READ BEFORE - thrillhouse
Just walking through a Chicagoland BestBuy and for the first time I can remember since it came out...
I saw about 200 Wiis stacked up in a display surrounded by the Zapper, the Wii Wheel, Guitar Hero Aerosmith etc. They were getting snatched up slowly, but you could tell by weeks end, they'll be gone.
I think the system has done astonishing and am happy to own it along with the X360 and PS3. Some games are great, some not as much, but I probably get about an equal use of all 3 systems.
I have noticed a notorious backlash regarding internet forums, and gaming sites, and magazines all scrutinizing the Wii much more then in 2007. I thought about the complaints and one constant thing kept creeping up. "The Wii is a dust collector". people buy it and don't play it. It's the "Hip" thing.
I think I agreed with the idea that it was the "in" thing in 2007. Everyone really wanted one and the prices got to $400 - $500 in some areas of scalping. But it's well into 2008, with Christmas approaching and a record shattering October has already ocurred. I never thought it would keep this momentum despite my ridiculous prediction in my sig.
If you ask most "Wii owners" on forums (And there are always exceptions) they are happy to "sell" you their system. And they never play it. It's games suck...etc...
I have to be honest, I have plenty of friends that refuse to buy one, but the ones that do have the system, use it, and would never think of getting rid of it.
The reason I bring it up, is how could a system that is considered by gamers, a "dust collector" still be popular? Does this argument hold water in 2008? You think by now the internet or print mags would tell folks to avoid the machine at all costs, that it would filter to the casual folks. It makes you wonder how much influence the internet has on the Wii.
I certainly don't think its Moms and Grandmas buying this all by themselves.
And kids tastes change every 2 days, so its not the kids.
So is it possible that the system is actually "good??" Is it the secret "band" that you like, that you don't want your cool friends to know about?
Just a thought. take care! Glad to see the site is going strong. Now to start GoW2.
