The changes between games are on the level of a patch. The fact people keep buying each version says a lot about the attention span of the masses.
I played first game to death, I bought the second and was bored within hours, it was near identical. I skipped 3 because was just a graphic update, and I bought 4 long after release second hand for about £5 thinking the series might have changed enough. That can't be serious, I've spent countless hours with this series and the leap between GT 2 and GT 3 is massive (There is not much done between 3 and 4 though, I'll admit). That's like saying Half-Life 2 has no improvements over Half-Life or Civilization 4 has nothing that the original didn't have save for better graphics. Your statement is epic, but in the wrong direction.
