The whole time before we moved he when I was 10.
We'd stitch my jeans together since we couldn't get new ones. My mom back then was a tailor, and a damn good one too.
We'd keep tabs of what money we spent, even the smallest thing had to be written down, so that we could cut costs.
We couldn't get any type of a computer, however old, because we couldn't afford it. Would have cost 3 monthly salaries to get one.
We'd never throw away food for absolutely any reason.
Also I hear times were much much worse back before I was old enough to remember a lot of things, back when I was under 5 and things.
I will admit though, I always had some sort of a present every christmas or birthday. My Famicom was a Christmas present actually.
Right now we're fine and apparently, going by statistics, we're in the top 10% of society in terms of earnings. Given that we're still struggling to get me through college, especially right now with the economy the way it is. All this is the reason why I can always sympathize with the ppor which really don't have any way out, and absolutely hate the poor who aren't even trying to get out of poverty but never stop bitching, whining, leeching SS, and begging. Call it social darwinism, but those people deserve to be poor and suffering, and hopefully they won't reproduce, and if they do hopefully their children will be different.
