Do you mean total sales, or first week? Do you count Single-plats only (I think you should). This generation only?

Because for 1st person shooter - Duck Hunt - 28.31M total sold.

Racer - Gran Turismo 3 - 14.87M or Mario Kart DS - 12.32M (will overtake GT3 soon).

Strategy - Starcraft. Has sold over 10M, according to the box mine came in.

Horror game - If you count single-plat, the Ps3 version may very well beat it. If you count single-plat, it won't become nr 1. Resident Evil 2 has sold 5.82M. For multi-plat, RE 4 has sold over 6M now.

WRPG - Kinda hard to say, as I don't know a lot about this, still for total sales, I'm certain several WRPGs have beaten 2.5M (which Fable 2 won't).

 

Using fastest selling ever would be stupid, as we only have data for 2 generations (and not even that).

But for this generation, this would be the list. Single plats only.

 

 

X360:

1st Person shooter - Halo 3 - 8.4M

Sandbox Game - GTA IV - 6.17M

3rd person shooter - Gears of War - 5.3M

Music game - Guitar Hero 3 -  3.51M

Role-Playing game. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion - 2.58M

Horror - Dead Rising - 1.78M

 

Now, that seems pretty impressive for this generation. But wait untill you see the Ps3!

Still, OP is correct. 360 does very well.

 

One thing that makes it even better though, if you add in DS and PsP, I think it would go like this.

DS > X360 > Wii > PsP = Ps3 (I think both are at 0).
