Wow. The lack of Quake love in the OP and this thread is appalling. Half-Life 2 is good but since I am far more interested in multi-player, there are better offerings out there.
I dare not guess how many hours I have spent playing Quake 1(original TF), Quake 2(Battle of the Sexes mod), Tribes(huge maps with great teamplay aspects), UT 2003(utterly awesome), and many more. I got tired of pc fps games and moved onto console ones. Very different dynamic for the games that are made specifically for consoles.
I remember quite vividly having a LAN party to play the Quake beta the day it came out. 2 maps with only like 5 different weapons available and we still were completely floored by it.
I am now completely engrossed in Horde mode from Gears 2. Nothing revolutionary, but just plain fun as ****.
