Hence the 2D > 3D part. 
Despite it's current stumble, the Sonic franchise is very dear to me. I grew up with the Blue Blur and even today Sonic & Knuckles is my favorite game of all time. Yeah, there's been hiccups such as Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3/360, and some didn't like Secret Rings (I thought it was a step in the right direction myself). Still, I love Sonic and his two friends (anyone past Knuckles doesn't count 
), so I gotta say that Sonic is still my number one franchise.
