Do you have a citation/link on that comment by Namco's PR people? I don't doubt they may have felt that way (that seems to be the third party reaction to the Wii -- then they wonder why they don't get sales). But to actually say it publicly would be stupid. Mike from Morgantown

I'm having trouble tracking down the "budget" quote, but the "spinoff" one can be found here.

Tsutomu Gouda: First, I have to say that the relationship between Destiny 1 and 2, and Symphonia and Dawn, is very different. Destiny 1 and 2 formed one complete whole, but Dawn doesn't have a "2" attached to it; we consider it to be a spinoff title.

Speaking personally, that was the moment when alarm bells started sounding in my head. Why would you refer to your own product like that...?

Alarm bells? Not quite, it' been an escort title from the start and I told people that, but that certainly doesn't mean it's bad.

Generally escort titles are smaller in scope and a bit experimental for the franchise, but DotNW seems to be the 'biggest' spinoff in the series to date. All the other escort titles are usually restricted to handhelds.

On the subject of advertising... Namco really needs to get with it. They never advertise their Tales games. I thought Symphonia would have changed their minds after it sold through some miracle, but they didn't advertise Legendia or Abyss either. DotNW is just the latest victim.

I think the reason why they aren't advertising the Tales games is because they honestly don't expect Tales to be huge outside of Japan.
