Nomura doesn't have any control over the FF characters. They're owned by Square and no-one else. Square paid Nomura when he made those characters and therefore belong to the company. So KH can easily continue without Nomura.
Personally I don't believe this interview for a second. I can however understand if they would leave, seeing the uninsired company SE has become. Their own company would be awesome, but the market for RPGs isn't that good anymore, so they do need support from someone, like Nintendo is supporting Matsuno and Sega is supporting Platinum Games.
And by the way: Lost Odyssee sold pretty well for a RPG. It's the best sold so far. Symphonia 2 is the only game in the near future that has the possibility of selling more. (Console RPG, and until FF13 of course).
